Last night I finished the little creature I'd been working on. He was formed by a collection of techniques I've used to make other creatures, a large sock, a bit of cotton, some felt, and an idea that came to me when I was in Brazil. And I quite like him.
Meet Morel the Moose.
This morning I was planning to take him out on a forest photo shoot, but then we discovered that it is winter. So he lounged on the windowsills instead. And I quite like him on my windowsills.
He is imperfect, but quite charming. And that what counts.

an unnamed flower doodle
I am in between module 1 & 2 of my pattern design class and I am almost loving this break time as much as the class time. I have time to go back to patterns that I began during the class, and either rework them, or take the time to create the technical repeats in Illustrator. And to work on designs that have been forming in mind.
This is one of my favorite patterns I've done yet. But I haven't been able to dream up a name for her yet.

taste of brazil
Tonight I conquered my Brazilian cheese ball attempt. Although when the bottom of my blender broke, and all my ingredients ran out onto the floor, and the cheeky four year old that occupies my house says "she always breaks things" I thought I might just give up these silly cooking whims. But I'm pleased to say that they taste almost as delicious as the ones in Brazil. And they are easy, and mess free.
That is, if your blender doesn't betray you.

And on that note, I figured it would be a good time to share my little Brazil notebook, full of writing, ticket stubs and other treasures gathered along the way.

falling leaves pattern
We are having a beautiful fall here, and I've been inspired by the beautiful patterns on the falling leaves.

#1 - Shoot a gun
So far this weekend I haven't had much time for creating, but I did cross #1 off my 24 list. And it was so much fun.
Tomorrow - a day of patterns, sketches, maybe a bit of sewing, photos.
Happy Thanksgiving!

whats up in October
I'm back from Brazil, bursting with inspiration and things to accomplish, but bogged down with jetlag.
This month I'm in between modules in my surface design class, so I have lots of little things in my mind that I want to create during this break.
Better get going!
